ALUMNI OF THE MONTH

We are pleased to introduce our next alumni of the month! Meet Kayleigh Robinson who completed BA Games Design: Story Development in 2022.

Kayleigh has since completed an MA in Creative Writing & is currently applying for Teacher Training with the hopes to become a qualified Secondary School English Teacher.

Kayleigh's special memory of UEL was winning 'Best Overall Course Representative' at the UEL Awards in 2020; "I felt that my hard work and compassion for my peers and course were recognised and I was honoured to receive the award".

Summer TEFL Teaching Opportunity in Poland- Apply Now! 

The Global Experiences team is excited to offer UEL students and recently-graduated alumni the opportunity to apply for a 4-week TEFL internship in Poland this summer with Angloville. This unique programme offers volunteers the chance to gain real-life teaching experience while earning an accredited TEFL certification and the chance to participate in a fun cultural exchange while travelling abroad.

What does the programme involve?
This cultural exchange programme provides an excellent opportunity for UEL students to gain practical teaching experience as native English speakers or equivalent (C2 Proficiency level). Volunteers will engage in an immersive style of casual conversation classes, games, role play, and workshops with English learners, typically running for 10 hours a day (including meal times) and spanning 6 days a week. Volunteers will be provided with comfortable on-site accommodation at the venues in shared rooms (twin and triple rooms) with ensuite bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, and three meals a day.

Volunteers can choose to join either batch during the following 4-week periods:

Batch 1: 29th June - 27th July 2024
Batch 2: 20th July - 17th August 2024
These periods include 3 weeks in the Angloville programme followed by one week in Warsaw, totalling 29 days (4 weeks).

Funding
Successful candidates will be eligible to receive the Turing Scheme grant and students who meet the criteria of disadvantaged backgrounds will be eligible for additional funds to cover travel expenses. More details about grant rates can be found on the Turing Scheme website.

Save The Date: Creative Industries Festival coming September 2024!

This year’s theme:  “Creativity and science - opening up a realm of innovation and possibility”

Hosted by the School of Arts and Creative Industries at University of East London between 4th-7th September 2024, this annual festival will connect, educate, and inspire current and future creative talent and bring together the best of the UK creative and business communities. 

The festival will welcome creative talent, students and alumni, academics, entrepreneurs, researchers, policymakers and everyone with a passion for the Creative Industries.  During the festival there will be a host of interactive workshops, talks, panel discussions, installations, performances, exhibitions, hackathons, showcases, a careers fair, and community engagement events.

Alumni Webinar Series: Film Composition with Antonella Madrid

Tuesday 26th March 2024, 18:00-19:00, Online

UEL Alumni Antonella Madrid is a Venezuelan-American Film Composer, currently residing in London, United Kingdom. 
She is a multi-instrumentalist, having learnt to play the Tuba at the age of 11, Viola and Steelpans at 12, Guitar and Ukulele during her teenage years, and the Theremin at the age of 20.This webinar will delve into the importance of film scoring in the world of cinema and will serve as a comprehensive guide to those unfamiliar with the field. I will reflect upon my personal experiences as well as analyse contemporary examples to illustrate the intricacies of the medium. 

Areas that will be covered include: 

  • The theoretical and historical aspects of the craft. 
  • The role of film music in storytelling. 
  • The step-by-step process of scoring a film. 
  • Film composition resources for additional learning.

UEL Alumni Webinar Series: Business Model Design with Tonisha Tagoe

In the month of April we are joined by UEL Alumni Tonisha Tagoe, who is the CEO of Apples and Pears Holdings and Creator of the Ladies Entrepreneurship Club (LEC) which has active members and Alumni in over 20 countries worldwide. 

LEC’s purpose is to support women to start, build, grow, sell and list their businesses on the local stock exchange. Over the past 3 years, the Club has provided over 500 Female entrepreneurs with training and networking opportunities in Ghana alone and they will be opening their first female only coworking office and training centre in May 2024.

UEL Alumni Advisory Board Masterclass with Dr Imran Hossain

Wednesday 24th April 2024, 18:00-19:30, Online

Dr Imran Hossain is a lecturer in ‘Entrepreneurship’ at De Montfort University. He holds a PhD in ‘Entrepreneurship’ from the University of Leicester, an MBA from Essex University, and graduated with BA (Hons) Business Management in 2014 from UEL. Dr Imran is also an Associate Fellow of HEA and teaches a wide range of modules related to entrepreneurship at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Dr Imran has been honoured and awarded Best Poster Award: Second Place, R&D Management Conference, University of Strathclyde (2021) and Winner of Annual Doctoral College poster competition, University of Leicester (2020). 

Dr Imran Hossain will be sharing his knowledge and expertise within the area of: The Entrepreneurial Mindset.
