Calling on Alumni who did an Access to Higher Education diploma

Help us to help Access to HE students starting at UEL.  Are you an alumnus who joined us at UEL having completed an Access to Higher Education Diploma?  Then we would love to hear about your experience of studying at UEL so we can share it with current students on Access to HE courses that we are supporting.

Sharing your experiences of the transition from studying at college to learning at university and how you used support services along your journey to help you achieve could be transformative.   This is especially true for those who are still on their Access to HE courses but who may be uncertain about what to expect at university.

How can you help us and get involved? Tell your story as a case study, or via a short video, or contribute to a newsletter and share your top tips on making a success of university.  We are keen to hear from you and especially looking for alumni who came from the following colleges:

•    City and Islington College or Croydon College
•    Hackney College or Havering College of FE & HE
•    Newham College of FE & HE or South Essex College
•    Tower Hamlets College or Waltham Forest College

If you want to share your experience but did an Access to HE course at a college, not on this list – still do get in touch.  Your thoughts and experiences are important, and we want to hear them to help those coming to university get prepared.

Please email Naz Deen, Careers Adviser (Pre entry guidance) at n.deen@uel.ac.uk and Elif Serindag, Client Experience and Monitoring Officer, at E.Serindag@uel.ac.uk to get involved.

Further and Higher: Working-class women’s experiences in education in the long 1970s- Call for all oral history participants

As part of my doctoral research I am exploring the experiences of working-class women in further and higher education. I am interested in examining the ways in which class could influence women’s routes into education and their experiences of attending educational institutions. I am keen to speak to women who identify as being from a working-class background who attended sites of further or higher education at any point between 1968 and 1983. This could include universities, colleges (including sixth forms and polytechnic colleges) and evening classes.

Participation in the project would take the form of an interview to explore the participant’s experiences alongside contextual information about their background in relation to the topic of education.

This research will form one chapter of my PhD project which aims to explore the multifaceted lives and lived experiences of working-class women in the long 1970s.

If you would like more information about becoming involved in the project please get in touch!

There is clear and impressive evidence of dissemination, and the approaches described appear to be truly innovative.
